Learn to Salsa with Avron and Ines

ABOUT INES AND AVRON

Ines is a lively, experienced, Salsa and Spanish teacher born in Venezuela, South America. She was brought up dancing in the street in big festivals and samba carnivals surrounded continuously by Cuban Salsa.  For Ines, her native country is one of great beauty and scenery, and its people are full of enthusiasm for dancing to the melody of salsa music.  It is part of everyday life.  Her musical inspirations come from leading songwriters and performers such as Oscar D'Leon, Ruben Blades and Celia Cruz.  Ines' enthusiasm for dance and Latin American culture naturally led her into a teaching career and she soon achieved her "Cert ed." from Plymouth University. Since then she has worked at Saltash College, Stoke Damerel, Swarthmore Adult Education Centre, Devonport High School and many other institutions since 1991.  During this period she has been a great motivator and has generously shared her culture with all whom she has worked with.

Ines particularly enjoys teaching at colleges as this means she has good contact and relationships with many students who progress to higher levels at the end of each course.

She also does workshops for schools, parties for her students, hotels, leisure centres, bars pubs, restaurants, as well as private teaching and fund raising for charities.

Avron is originally form New York City, U.S.A. and came to the UK to do his Ph.d. in Anthropology and Music. He then came to Plymouth  to work for the Arts Council as a Film Officer for the Plymouth Arts centre.  During and after this time he has worked as a professional jazz percussionist and pianist for many years playing publicly and doing session studio work and has had some of his original compositions played on Radio 4.  His long standing interest in latin music brought him to an association with Ines and he has been studying with her for some time now and assisting her with her classes.  Avron finds Salsa dancing an inspiration and is stimulated by the specialist South American genre of Salsa.

Ines and Avron appeared in a National Television broadcast on ITVproduced by
Satellite Park Productions Ltd, which was called "Lovebus".  Essentially the programme featured a group of 18 to 25 year olds who are given a variety of tasks and competitions to win prizes and dating opportunities which were all filmed on ITV.  One of the competitions or tasks was to learn and dance a Salsa sequence in just a few hours, taught by Ines, to perform in front of local judges.
